The Black Nun guests for the night were the fantastic duo from Germany, Scarlett O' & Juergen Ehle. They held the audience spellbound for almost two hours with singing & musicianship out of the top drawer. Scarlett O' was singing for most of the night in German, which on paper you would think would eventually dull the audience, but no, not a bit of it. The intro's were in English, & were delivered with a wit & honesty which quickly won over their audience, & her singing voice had a rich warm timbre to it, with a distinctly seductive quality. Add to all this, the fact that she is a very beautiful woman, & by now you can appreciate why the audience were hooked from the first song. Not only was she a gorgeous singer, but she was also pretty nifty when it came to using her Accordion, Recorder & Whistle. In the same league for sure, was her musical partner, Juergen Ehle, who
was absolutely brilliant on his three Guitars & Mandolin. As Scarlett's
voice seemed to sound so different for each song, as the sentiment &
topic changed, so did Juergen alter his accompaniment to suit. He seems
to have an inexhaustible supply of sounds & styles at his command.
Amazing to think too, that this guy is probably more at home with a Strat.
or Tele., & just how many more musical colours could he have added
to the nights canvas, if only he had had room in his car boot for his
electric babies too. (Mickey MacConnell on www.causewaymusic.co.uk) |
